The Journey Begins

A Journey to Light the Future through Friendship and Compassion

Among countless charitable organizations, there exists a special story—one built on a deep friendship, a noble ideal, and a powerful desire to bring lasting change to the lives of underprivileged children.

This is the story of Perspective Charity, a nonprofit founded and led by two extraordinary women—Janny Phuong-An Ly and Thuy-Nguyen Christine Tran. Their journey is more than a series of volunteer trips; it is a living testament to the power of vision, compassion, and the belief that every child deserves a brighter future. This article delves into the founding values, core activities, and aspirations of Perspective Charity, offering a comprehensive look at an organization quietly planting seeds of hope throughout Vietnam and will expand to Southeast Asia and other countries in the future.

A Beginning Rooted in Friendship and Shared Vision

The story of Perspective Charity began with the deep friendship between Janny Phuong-An Ly and Thuy-Nguyen Tran. More than lifelong friends, they were kindred spirits—united by a shared concern for the hardships faced by underprivileged children, especially those forced to sacrifice education for survival.

From these reflections came the foundation of an organization committed not only to providing material support, but also emotional and educational empowerment.

The name Perspective Charity was no random choice. It embodies the founders’ vision of a more equitable world—one in which every child, regardless of background, has the opportunity to grow and thrive. “Perspective” also symbolizes the new outlook they hope to offer the children: a vision of a life beyond poverty, full of possibility.

The organization’s founding in early of 2020 was more than a milestone—it was a declaration of unwavering belief: that a timely act of kindness, no matter how small, can transform a life. They recognized that for a child to truly rise above hardship, they need more than just food or clothing—they need access to education, a strong foundation that can launch them into a better future.

From this philosophy, a clear vision and mission emerged—guiding every effort of the charity since its inception.

Vision, Mission & Operating Philosophy

Every initiative at Perspective Charity is grounded in a strong foundation of values, expressed through its vision, mission, and core philosophy:

Vision: Every child deserves the opportunity to succeed.
Perspective Charity believes that each child holds boundless potential. What stands in their way are financial and circumstantial barriers. Once those are removed, these children gain the confidence and power to shape their own futures—and, in turn, contribute meaningfully to society.

Mission: Empowering children through Love & Generosity.
More than charity, this is a promise—to not just help, but empower. To give children the right to learn, to dream, and to live with hope. This mission is made possible through the generosity of sponsors and volunteers, grounded in sincere love and deep empathy.

Operating Philosophy:
Perspective Charity’s approach is defined by three guiding principles:

  • Sustainability:
The charity focuses on long-term educational scholarships—from middle school through university—rather than one-time aid. This sustainable model ensures that children can truly break the cycle of poverty.
  • Building Trust & Love:
Financial support alone isn’t enough. Emotional support is just as vital. Through mission trips, heartfelt letters, and strong sponsor-student bonds, the organization creates a “safety net” of love and encouragement so children never feel alone on their journey.
  • Raising Changemakers:
Perspective Charity doesn’t stop at supporting students—it aims to nurture future leaders and responsible citizens who will give back to their communities and drive lasting change.

Core Programs & Milestones

With a clear philosophy and strong values, Perspective Charity has translated vision into action—achieving meaningful impact over its first five years. At the heart of its work is the Long-Term Scholarship Program.

  • Long-Term Scholarship Program:
This is the cornerstone of Perspective Charity. Scholarships are awarded to underprivileged, hardworking students across Vietnam. What sets this program apart is its commitment: as long as students maintain good academic performance, their scholarship continues through university. This relieves families of financial burdens and allows students to focus fully on their studies.
  • Over the past five years, the program has supported 180 students across 13 provinces, from impoverished rural villages to remote mountain regions. The scholarship covers tuition, health insurance, books, clothing, and other essential expenses.
  • Mission Trips:
These trips are essential to the charity’s work. Founders, volunteers, and sponsors regularly travel to visit students and their families. More than a handover of gifts or scholarships, these visits foster real emotional connections between donors and recipients. Mission trips also offer young volunteers from the U.S. a firsthand look at the realities of life in Vietnam. These experiences help develop empathy and gratitude, exposing participants to new cultures and perspectives. Many students return home inspired to build bridges of kindness and perhaps, one day, contribute to lasting change themselves.
  • Community Building:
Perspective Charity does not work alone. It has built a strong network of donors—both individuals and foundations. By 2024, the charity had gained the support of 150 individual sponsors and 8 partner foundations, forming a committed community united by the belief in education as a force for change.

Looking Ahead: A Dream for the Future

Reflecting on the past five years (2020-2025), it’s clear that what began as a seed of friendship has grown into a powerful force for good. But the founders; Janny Phuong-An Ly and Thuy-Nguyen Tran, continue to dream even bigger.

Their goal is to expand the scale of their impact, reaching more students and communities. They believe that each child helped is a seed of hope, and those seeds will one day grow into strong trees, forming a forest of knowledge and compassion.

Their long-term vision is to build a sustainable ecosystem, one in which education is not a privilege, but a basic right accessible to all. They want to turn stories of triumph over hardship into reality for more children across Vietnam.

Above all, they aim to spread the message that with the right vision and a loving heart, we can all help create something extraordinary.

Perspective Charity is more than just a name—it is a promise, a commitment.
A promise of a brighter future for determined, deserving children.
A future built on love, generosity, and the unshakable belief in the power of education.
