A Notebook of Dreams

In the bustling hubbub of our charity event, amidst the flurry of chatter and the hustle of eager learners, she appeared like a delicate flower amidst concrete. A young girl, no more than ten years old, stood at the fringes of the crowd, her eyes wide with wonderment, but her demeanor marked by the weight of poverty. Her tattered clothes and bare feet told a silent tale of struggle and hardship, yet her spirit remained unbroken.
As the organizer of the event, we couldn’t help but notice her, a lone figure in a sea of faces. With curiosity piqued and compassion stirred, we approached her, offering a warm smile. “Hello there, would you like to join us?“ we asked gently. Her eyes lit up with a mixture of surprise and gratitude, as if the mere invitation was an unexpected gift. “Yes, thank you” she whispered, her voice a soft melody amidst the cacophony around us. With a notebook tucked under our arm, we extended it towards her. “Here, this is for you,” we said, sensing the spark of curiosity and thirst for knowledge within her gaze. Her fingers trembled slightly as she accepted the gift, her eyes widening with disbelief at the simple yet profound offering. Clutching the notebook to her chest as if it were a treasure beyond measure, she nodded gratefully. Without hesitation, she found a quiet corner amidst the chaos and settled herself down on the ground. With unwavering determination, she opened the notebook, her eyes scanning the blank pages with a mixture of anticipation and uncertainty.
We watched from a distance, our heart swelling with admiration for her resilience and courage. Despite the odds stacked against her, she remained undeterred in her pursuit of knowledge, her hunger for learning eclipsing the barriers of poverty and adversity. As she painstakingly tried to write the alphabet, and her brow furrowed in concentration, we couldn’t help but feel a lump form in our throat. In that moment, the power of education to transform lives became abundantly clear, embodied in the form of a young girl with a notebook and a dream. By the way, her name is Vy. Her moment was quickly captured as a poignant reminder of the profound impact of generosity and compassion. In Vy, we saw the embodiment of hope, a testament to the resilience of the human spirit in the face of adversity.
With a sense of purpose renewed and a fire ignited within our soul, we would love to share her story with the world, to inspire others to lend their support to Perspective Charity or any other educational organization you know. For every child like Vy, with dreams as vast as the sky and potential as boundless as the horizon, deserves a chance to flourish and thrive. In the heart of a person who values the beauty of this life, we always hope to lay the seeds of possibility, awaiting to be nurtured and cultivated into a garden of dreams fulfilled . And it was with this unwavering belief in the power of education to change lives that we embarked on our mission: “Giving wings to the underprivileged children to overcome the difficult and chase their dreams”. This story could be about thousands of children we saw on the mission.
Stories of the sponsored students
Written by Duy Minh – Cẩm Mỹ, Đồng Nai – VietNam
My name is Nguyễn Duy Minh, and I currently live in Đồng Nai Province, Vietnam. Today, I’m incredibly honored and grateful to be given the chance by Perspective Charity to share my personal story with you—a story I deeply treasure, and the one that I hope you will listen to with open hearts.
There’s a Vietnamese saying: “One smile is worth ten doses of tonic.” A smile does more than spread joy—it holds immense emotional value. It’s a gift of empathy, of love, of healing. Yet, behind the smile of a child who seemed to grow up surrounded by warmth, love, and laughter, there lies a story of great resilience. And that child was me.
If you saw me today, you might think I’m one of the lucky ones—confident eyes, a bright smile, and a clear voice. But behind that smile were sleepless nights, days when I doubted I could keep going with school, and countless silent tears that no one ever saw. My family didn’t have much, but the love they gave me was plenty. Even so, I gradually became aware of the struggles we faced—simple meals, no new clothes except for Lunar New Year, and old schoolbooks handed down from older students that I had to care for as if they were treasures.
My childhood was wrapped in two words: “keep trying.” Poverty never made me feel ashamed, but it did make me hesitant to dream. I became quieter, smiled less. I lived like a shadow of myself. I didn’t dare dream of trips or luxuries. All I wished for was to study, to live a decent life. Every day felt like both a blessing and a battle—for me, and for my entire family.
At age 16, I entered a new school—a place that would shape my dreams and my future. But along with that came heavy pressure from school, family expectations, and my own self-doubt. There were times I seriously considered dropping out to help my parents. But deep inside, a small part of me still longed to learn, to grow, and to live out my youth in a meaningful way. I understood that “education is the shortest path to success.”
And then, at the beginning of 11th grade, I received a scholarship from the Perspective Charity. That moment changed everything. It gave me strength and encouragement to keep going.
When I received the scholarship, it was an emotional moment I will never forget. I felt like all the effort I had poured into my studies had finally been recognized. That joy, that pride, and that rush of emotions gave me a new drive to keep pushing forward. The scholarship wasn’t just financial support—it was a powerful source of motivation that helped me believe in myself and aim higher.
Then came university—a world full of knowledge and new experiences. But the road ahead wasn’t easy, especially with our family’s limited means. My parents’ income was unstable, and they still had to care for my younger brother. The cost of higher education was a burden too heavy to ignore. That became my biggest worry.
But right at that difficult turning point, I received joyful news: Perspective Charity had decided to continue supporting students into university. That year marked the first time the program expanded to the higher education level—a decision that meant the world to me.
Thanks to the scholarship, I could focus more on learning and less on money. I had access to quality materials, joined enrichment courses, and attended specialized seminars that once seemed out of reach. It opened doors to a multidimensional academic environment where I could explore, grow, and refine myself.
Beyond academics, the scholarship positively impacted my daily life. I became more confident, more motivated to face new challenges. It inspired me to spread that same determination to my friends and others around me. It also awakened in me a sense of responsibility to give back—to support others in situations like mine, and help create an inspiring, equal learning environment.
The encouragement from my family and Perspective Charity helped me regain my spirit, smile more often, and live with more optimism, discipline, and passion every day.
Through this letter, I want to extend my most sincere gratitude to Perspective Charity for believing in me, choosing me, and giving me such a precious opportunity. I’m also deeply thankful to the uncles, aunts, older siblings, generous sponsors, and donors who have dedicated their time and hearts to give students like us the chance to keep learning. I wish you all good health, joy, and a heart forever filled with compassion, so that you may continue to help future generations of dreamers like me—no matter how difficult their circumstances.
Even more than that, the scholarship was a message: “You are not alone on this journey toward knowledge.” The program’s continued support became my inspiration to stay resilient and true to my dreams. I promise to make the most of this opportunity—to keep learning, to contribute to my community, and to grow into someone who can give back to society.
As July 26 marks the 5-year anniversary of Perspective Charity, I want to send my best wishes to the program. May it continue to grow and uplift many more students in the years to come. I hope more young people will be empowered—just like I was—to follow their own path to knowledge.
Once again, I offer my heartfelt thanks and wish everyone here—sponsors, mentors, supporters—health, success, and the love of a community that you have built and inspired with your compassion.
Before I end this message, allow me to share a little more from my heart. To me, Perspective Charity is more than a program—it is like a family. It is part of who I am. I’ve been supported by this program for nearly 3 to 4 years, and I will always carry special feelings for it in my heart. Even after I graduate and step aside so another student can receive the same support, I still want to remain a part of this big family—as a child, a younger sibling of Perspective Charity.
Even if I no longer receive a scholarship, I would love to volunteer my time—help the program with outreach, organize activities, and assist in awarding scholarships to others. A single “thank you” could never express all I feel right now. All I hope is to keep striving so that Perspective Charity can feel proud of someone who came from this family.
And finally, I want to say this—my promise:
“The smile I wear today is not just the result of a difficult journey—it’s a thank-you to Perspective Charity, a tribute to those who never gave up on me in the dark. It’s a vow to myself: that no matter what hardships come, I will keep moving forward, chasing my dreams.”
